French Cinema

So, I experienced my first ‘night out’. Sabine – Jean-pronounced-JOHN's girlfriend took me out to the cinema and we met up with him. She’s helping me improve my French by only speaking French to me. I feel I’m improving already! Whenever anyone asks about my family or interests, I immediately start spouting off parts of the scripts I learnt for my French Oral exams! ‘J’ai deux frères...’ ‘Ma mère est toujours stressée mais mon père est détenu avec ce que je fais.’ They score points with the examiners, but they aren’t half as impressive here. Makes me wonder what use there is to French GCSE/A-Level.

I was very interested to find that most of the films showing at the cinema are in English, but with French names and subtitles. ‘The Switch’ – Jennifer Aniston’s latest movie is called ‘Une Famille Très Moderne’, which has no links at all to the English name. We ended up seeing ‘Tamara Drewe’ with Gemma Arterton. C’était très amusant. It was a change from seeing French films with English subtitles, and I did follow the French subtitles and worked out the rest of the sentence before they’d said it in English.

Earlier this evening the family returned along with ANOTHER family. A small boy suddenly appeared, and I started to think that Caroline had forgotten to mention a child! At first I thought it was Marie... looking rather boyish. :S Soon everyone else entered and there were so many children that I couldn’t work out who Juliette, Margot and Marie were! Hopefully tomorrow will be quieter and I can actually find out which of the kids live here – the ones that come down for breakfast!
